Opened in 1881, the Savoy Theatre in London was designed by C I Phipps and decorated by Collinson & Locke. The Savoy became famous as the first public building in the world to be lit by incandescent electric lights and in one way or another it has been blazing ever since.

The Savoy Theatre completed a major façade refurbishment across seven levels and four elevations within a live urban environment. Delivered by Rosewood, the works involved extensive scaffolding and careful management of public and operational interfaces.

CN Projects were appointed to carry out regular site safety inspections, providing independent assurance of compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) and wider health and safety legislation. Through a proactive site presence and close collaboration with project stakeholders, risks associated with working at height, public interfaces, and heritage constraints were effectively managed, ensuring the works were delivered safely without impact on theatre operations or public safety.

The Savoy Theatre successfully underwent a complex programme of simultaneous upgrade works, including new flooring installations by CAPS Ltd, auditorium seating replacement by Kirwin & Simpson, the introduction of new digital signage by MCPG, and the construction of a new Mezzanine Bar, all delivered in preparation for the highly anticipated theatrical production Paddington.
Given the concurrent works within a live heritage theatre, strict compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM) was essential. CN Projects were appointed to carry out regular site safety audits, providing independent assurance that all contractors met their CDM responsibilities and statutory health and safety requirements.

Through proactive monitoring and collaborative engagement, CN Projects was appointed as CDM Advisor promoting a positive health and safety culture, ensuring risks were controlled, safe systems of work were maintained, and the project was delivered safely without impact on operational or public safety.
