The Lyceum Theatre has a rich and evolving history marked by success, decline, and renewal. Its story began in 1772, when the Society of Arts established a venue for exhibitions and concerts near the site of today’s theatre. Since then, the Lyceum has continually reinvented itself, adapting with remarkable versatility to changing tastes and cultural demands.

Today, the theatre is home to Disney’s The Lion King, welcoming an average of 760,000 visitors each year who enjoy its world-class productions and hospitality.

PROJECT: Facade Refurbshment

Client: ATG Entertainment
Location: London
Principal Contractor: Rosewood

Project Value: £218,000

As part of the 25th Anniversary celebrations of The Lion King in October 2024, the Property Team delivered a programme of façade repair and decoration works to the historic Lyceum Theatre. The scope was informed by an ATGE Façade Condition Report completed in April 2023, which identified areas of deterioration requiring repair, alongside decorative enhancements specified by Disney Theatrical. All necessary Listed Building Consent and Planning Permission were secured prior to commencement.

The works were carried out over a nine-week programme, completing in September 2024 ahead of the anniversary celebrations. The entire façade was fully scaffolded to enable safe access, and following a successful tender process, Rosewood Restoration were appointed as principal contractor. The project was delivered on time and to a high standard, preserving the building’s historic character while enhancing its appearance for this landmark anniversary.

CN Projects was appointed to deliver comprehensive Health & Safety site audits throughout the Lyceum Theatre façade refurbishment works. This included detailed reviews of Construction Phase documentation, contractor competency and training records, and site inductions and briefings.

The audits focused on ensuring the Principal Contractor’s compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, the effective implementation of risk controls, and the maintenance of safe working practices across multiple elevations within a live heritage theatre and public-facing environment.

Ongoing support, regular engagement, and proactive issue resolution helped maintain high safety standards throughout the programme, while minimising disruption to theatre operations and ensuring continued safe access for the public during the works.
